Today we took the chairs (and kids) on a road trip to the East Bay. Chairs we dropped off to be reupholstered - see you in 2 weeks, looking fab - and kids we took to Ikea for meatballs and a few intoxicatingly inexpensive inessentials. I love Ikea - it makes me giddy. It represents a dream that has escaped me thus far in my life of having a home that looks put together, efficient and fresh. Jacqui asked me for the number for FEMA yesterday - she said: "Mom, this place is a disaster!"
On my own, I'm willing to admit that I'm not the most tidy or organized person - I get that. For my husband, the same is true if not more so ...! So together we are already behind the 8-ball. Then add kids ... I don't think that I was prepared for the level of chaos they would bring. They move things for no reason. Just move them from one room to another. Baffling. They collect things in little bags. Treasures like rocks and shiny beads and my car keys. It's maddening. Where is my _____? Oh, of course, it's wrapped in a tissue, stuffed into the toe of my hiking boot and wedged behind the couch. Why didn't I look there first?!? Children = chaos in ways I could have never imagined.
My friend who just completed a house remodel told me that she got a lock put on her closet. She keeps they key, just like the wicked step-mother in Cinderella, safely in her pocket at all times. I've already got a call into my GC - I want that too!! Heaven.
